It is amazing how disaster, in the form of three hailstorms at our orchard this summer, can have a silver lining. In August, we were contacted by Dave, from the Eden Ice Cider people in Newport, Vermont. He said they had read about our troubles and wanted to help. We went down to meet them on August 24th and were really touched by their concern and interest. Eleanor, Dave and Ben, shown in this picture, showed us their amazing operation and we talked apples! There is little that apple people like doing more than talking apples. Last Friday, they visited the orchard and we are going to collaborate on making a sparkling, summer apple hard cider- it should be incredible. Nice that some of our apples, ugly though they are, will be put to good use. Stay tuned for when you can buy some!
This weekend at the orchard!
Lobos- great cooking and eating- in full swing now- if you take the time you can find pretty good ones
Paula Red- winding down- but still lots to be found- good for eating and cooking
Sunrise- at the end- however, when you pick carefully, they are delicious- juicy and crunchy
Crab Apples- don’t forget to make crab apple jelly- wonderful on toast, and with various meats
All apples, in the kiosk and pick your own, are half price.
Also, all the squash are coming in now as well as many vegetables -notably carrots, onions, beets, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and othersLynn’s pottery is still there, waiting to be bought and taken home or given as a gift!
Also, a new batch of honey has just come in from Richard at Lune de Miel-come and check it out!
Remember if you have any questions, feel free to write to us, we will get back to you asap!
