What a wonderful Thanksgiving! We hope everyone had as great a weekend as we did. We were very busy- with long time customers, some who have been coming since they were babies, and people who have never been to the orchard before. It was a lot of fun! Family was also here, and with their help we were able to harvest the squash and pumpkins. We sure have lots!
But Thanksgiving isn’t the end of apple picking. The apples are still abundant and delicious. Apples do well with light and even medium frosts, they can even withstand up to -6 degrees. They continue to ripen, sweeten and even, a bit, grow bigger. So now is a great time to come and get your winter apples. Varieties like Spartan, Empire and Honeycrisp last a very long time if kept in a cold place. We ate our last apple from the orchard in March last year. Hope you can come by for a post-Thanksgiving outing!
Varieties now available are Macintosh, Cortland, Spartan, Empire, Lawfam(a cross between the St. Laurent and the Fameuse, a small purple apple with huge taste), Wolf River( a very large amazing cooking apple) and, of course, the Honeycrisp and the Golden Russet which you can only get at the stand.
We also have many varieties of squash; butternut, buttercup, sunshine, delicata, sweet dumpling, acorn, Blue and Green Hubbard and spaghetti! We have lots of big pumpkins and a bunch of pie pumpkins. The juice is now being made with a combination of Mac, Cortland, and honeycrisp apples-sweet and delicious.
As always, pottery, jam, jellies, maple products, hot sauce, pickles and sauces and much more at the kiosk. Hope to see you soon! Lynn and Chris
