We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, even if the weather was not amazing. It did clear up on both Saturday and Sunday and many people came out and picked. And the picking continues. We still have all the major varieties available in the orchard for you to pick, Cortland, Macintosh, Empire and Spartan. There are still some Lobos, but you would have to really work for them. The same is true of the Lawfam, the Wolf River, you could find them but it won’t be easy. We have the Golden Russets available at the kiosk. If you haven’t tried this unique apple, you should!
The Heath family got together and did a squash hunt over the weekend, so we do have some in the kiosk. We certainly had our troubles with the squash and the pumpkins this year, powdery mildew because of the very wet spring and then a myriad of deer taking little nibbles, but the ones that are there are great!
Just want to remind people that the pottery goes on tour in early November- we have a number of shows/sales in Toronto during November and December- so come now to get holiday gifts!
We still have wonderful shiitake mushrooms from my brother’s mushroom farm over in Ways Mills. We have fresh and dried and, if you are intrepid, mushroom logs that you can use to grow your own!
Our wide variety of products are also still available, jams, jellies, honey, maple syrup, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar. Come and check them out.
Our winter juice is now being made every week. Sweet, flavorful and delicious.
The orchard is looking particularly beautiful at this time of year. The colours are at their peak and the huge standard trees are really the epitome of what apple trees should look like. There is a constant stream of geese flying overhead reminding us that winter is coming. So come out now and enjoy the best part of fall. Hope to see you.
