Apple Picking Weather Arrives! Sept. 15-23

Finally, we have some real apple picking weather, sunny, cool, beautiful! Fall is clearly coming but summer is clinging on and that makes for lovely weather.

The apples are continuing to ripen but slowly- which is really what you want!

This week you can pick:

Macintosh- coming into their own. Crunchy, still a little tart but with that real Mac flavour. Good for eating and cooking.150916-008

Paula Red-still available. Not huge amounts but, when you get them, they are amazing. Good for eating and cooking.

Lobo-this apple is many people’s favourite. A distinct flavour, sweet and juicy. Great for apple sauce particularly. An amazing eating apple

Summer Granny- a green apple- similar to the Granny Smith

Joyce- still can be found. The best cooking apple until the Cortland come in. They keep their shape in pies and have a tart, very appley, flavour.

Kerr Crabs- not a lot left, so if you are hoping to make crab apple jelly, come now.

The squash are really coming in now. They are delicious this year and will be even better now that we are getting the cold nights. 150916-003Pie pumpkins are also available- practice whipping up your pumpkin pie before Thanksgiving.

Lots of new jams, jellies, honey, maple syrup, baked goods and many other wonderful things at the stand.

The pottery is looking great, come and browse!20151012_141748_resized
